East of Birmingham lies the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, the largest collection of historic motorcycles in the world. To an enthusiast and garage-level builder, the number of machines, historically significant designs and magnificent restorations makes for an unforgettable experience. I arrived on a gray spring day and parked right out front. Once inside, I hung up my gear and set out for a stroll from the 5th floor on down. The varied exhibits each present a unique and often significant piece of motorcycling history.

Nice Mike, I hope to get to Barber this year. Maybe they'll want to display the Ruck when this trip is over?

Mike, When I was there last year a guy told me to head up toward Guntersville Lake NE of B'ham. Nice roads, lakes and en route to the Smokies. Thanks for the reports.

Great photos. I was at Barber for first time last month and only made it there as part of a low cost road trip. Normally fly over Alabama on the way to work related meetings. I respect your choice to leave work to enjoy the riding and experiences. Your non motorcycle pics are very good also. Good eye!

Thanks Daniel. I'm glad you got to visit Barber and behold the impressive collection of history. I've been living an hour away from Birmingham this winter in rural north Alabama working on photos and my journals. Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog and the kind comments.

Mike SaundersIn May 2014 I quit my job to ride a Honda Ruckus over 69'000 mi and counting. Wild camping most nights and cooking most of my own meals, I keep the costs low and the landscape changing. Archives
