It was with bittersweet emotions that I left Dave and Candy in the morning. It is the nature of my travels to continue and depart, despite my heartstrings pulling me to stay, listen and learn. Following their suggestion, I rode out to China Camp, a historic shrimp fishing village situated on a marsh around Point San Pedro on the shore of San Pedro Bay. The collection of original shacks and outbuildings dating from the 1870's reflect the Cantonese influence at that time. Sampans built of redwood and large nets allowed fisherman to catch the abundant shrimp in the bays and dry them on large tables in the sun or with a long brick kiln. Much of the dried shrimp was exported back to China with profits utilized to improve the operation.

Mike SaundersIn May 2014 I quit my job to ride a Honda Ruckus over 69'000 mi and counting. Wild camping most nights and cooking most of my own meals, I keep the costs low and the landscape changing. Archives
