Richard Machida in Fairbanks suggested I visit his friends Bob and Sharon in Wasilla. Fortunately Bob contacted me through my blog comments inviting me to stop by. I raced up Turnagain Arm aided by a tailwind allowing for a steady 40mph speed. This did nothing to calm the steady stream of traffic but got me to their place by 8:30pm. I pulled in to the driveway and was immediately drawn to the lively and diverse decorations throughout their yard and walls. Bob and Sharon came out to greet me like old friends welcoming me home. We chatted about my bike briefly before they asked if I was hungry. I had Ramen at 4 but that was kind of like lunch - I gladly said "yes!". They served up a delicious homemade meal of spaghetti squash and Bob's spaghetti sauce made from scratch. The huge bowl of healthy veggies warmed my body and my soul. Our conversation lasting late into the night warmed my mind. After some time, they showed me out back and to their guest house. The complete home out back was offered for my unlimited use of kitchen, washroom, laundry and shower. Sharon even went so far as to place eggs, toast, fruit and yogurt in the refrigerator for me. I was left speechless by their hospitality as they bid goodnight and shut the door.
The following morning after making my breakfast with provided ingredients, I met with Bob and Sharon who offered to take me on a tour of some local sights they knew I'd be interested in. Hatcher Pass, Independence Mine, Downtown Palmer and Elklutna were on the list for the day and I couldn't be more excited.
More to come from our travels shortly!
