Dad and I took the morning to tour Cowpens National Battlefield where Patriot Daniel Morgan swiftly defeated Banestar Tarrelton. Walking down the Green River Road, it felt as though it was just yesterday that the continentals took cover beyond the grassy hill. We walked the grounds before 9am then toured every display and video in the visitor center.
After our tour, I set off for Charlotte to visit friends. An ambling exploration in back roads near the Broad River landed me near Kings Mountain, the site of another colonial victory. Ferguson was defeated here on top of the hill. The high ground defensive did not work as planned when the colonial forces surrounded the mountain and used "Indian tactics" to hide and guerrilla warfare their way up the mountainside to victory. Their museum was a cool and pleasant location to spend the afternoon before my friend was off work at 5.
