The beauty of Skagit County, WA is in full bloom. The people I've met on my travels have been kind natured, the weather unusually cloud free, farmstands overflowing in produce and the scenery of mountains, farms and water, remarkable. I've had the honor of staying with my newlywed cousin and her husband who showed me around the county and the many sites it has to offer. I will divide my stay up in to a couple of more distinct posts but will begin with some of the general area.
The LaConner/Skagit County Historical Museum offered a fabulous connection to the past. Detailed and carefully crafted displays told the story of the county's establishment. Mines, lumber, abundant seafood and fertile soil helped propel the area's economy and population growth. The native people of the area still maintain some of their cultural distinctions and connections to a way once gone through salmon fishing, basket weaving and tribal activities on the nearby reservation.
