Last night I thought I had found the perfect camping spot down a sandy two track road behind a lake slated for development. I was unpacking my hammock and about to string it up when an entire Latino family walked past. The dad was on the right track followed by 6 women and his wife on the left. They said almost nothing but I held up my fishing pole and said " didn't catch anything!"
"Ah fishing" was all he said. I abandoned that spot and rode north on the hwy deeper into the box store belt.
I found a big field behind a radio tower and strung up my hammock on an old fence out back. A massive thunderstorm blew in off the gulf during the night forcing me to put on the rainfly. Loud rumbling booms of thunder like none I've ever heard before echoed off the woods behind me. I could have sworn one or two hit that tower. The bright flashes woke me up and the thunder hurt my ears. That's a Florida thunderstorm for ya!
