I met up with the team from eGarage in November along the coast of California for a video shoot. The day was fun and a fascinating look at the process of filming and directing. I knew that the footage would be pretty epic but I had no idea that their directing and editing would lead to such a high quality product. The footage within and my commentary is such a neat memento of my travels and hopefully an inspiration to those who think long distance travel on two wheels has to cost an arm and a leg. It was featured on Jalopnik and seen by a few of my friends around the internet. Let me know what you think! Hats off to eGarage for this great short film.

Yes the shots were taken along the Pacific with an aerial drone and GoPro.

Great video, Mike. I saw a young WVU student parking a Ruckus not long ago, and gave her the link to your blog. She was amazed. She is just graduating and is planning to take a year and "explore" before settling into a job. I wonder if Alaska is in her plans now. LOL

Mike, a week ago I saw this eGarage video on YouTube. Truly inspiring, so much in fact that my buddy and I plan on picking up a few Ruckus' and doing a 9-10 day trip out of Utah next summer. You see, my life changed for the worse 300 days ago. I placed my little girl (2 years, 7 months old) in her crib one summer night and she never woke up. SUDC took her away from us. I thought my life was over on that day. But everyday I wake up, is another I have survived. Some of your words reached the depths of my soul. So at 38, I am going to use my youth and health as a catalyst to mend my broken heart. Thanks for the inspiration... thanks for the adventure.

Wow, I'm just overwhelmed by the gravity of this comment. My heart goes out to you and your family. The quest for understanding and personal struggles bring one closer to knowing themselves. I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming trip. Shoot me an email and we can get in touch if you have any questions.

Mike, thank you for the support. In 17 days, my daughter will have been gone for 1 year. That is hard to believe, but it is my reality. I wish you the best of luck with all your mechanical issues, as of lately. Enjoy the scenery. I think you broke down in the right spot.

Your video is fabulous! Very professional and inspirational. I really envy you guys that are able to take trips like this. What an adventure it must be! The things you must see, the people you must meet, all of it! I'm totally green!!! Have you super up the engine to make it go faster? Do you ever have trouble with other motorists? I have been riding a Tomos moped for about 5seasons. I understand your trepidation about the snow. I've done it, but don't like it. I am going on a different adventure this summer though. I'm disabled due to a fusion in my lower back that went horribly wrong. I have rods and screws implanted posteriorly and a plate and screws implanted anteriorly. I also have a spinal cord stimulator implanted in my left butt cheek to help cover pain. I have to walk with fore-arm crutches. I have been training since early spring so I can go back country camping this summer with my hammock. Not quite sure where I'm going to go yet, probably Deam Lake State Recreational Area adjacent to Clark State Forrest in Indiana for starters. For me that's going to be one hell of a walk considering five years ago I was bed ridden. I truly wish I could make a trip like you are/did. You must let us know where you end up. Good luck to you and be safe! May God bless your road with no pot holes, and with warm sunny weather.

Your struggle to ride and live out your dreams is quite inspirational. Kudos to you for not letting a debilitating disability get in the way of your love of nature and the outdoors. Sincerely impressed with your riding and effort to make it work. My engine is stock 50cc and does struggle up hills with a line of motorists. The smaller it is, the easier to pull over and let the world pass by in a hurry. Best of luck on the hammock camping.

Howdy Mike, My brother called this morning and said you ran into him in Morro Bay on his custom built stand-up Honda metro-ped scooter. I built it for burningman and dropped it off for him after the Dirt-Circus. Thanks for sharing your travels with all of us, I'm so impressed with your adventures.

Greg, great hearing from you. I was seriously impressed by your fabrication and the loophole in the law for standups. Hope to meet you in person the next time I'm in SLO.

Mike SaundersIn May 2014 I quit my job to ride a Honda Ruckus over 69'000 mi and counting. Wild camping most nights and cooking most of my own meals, I keep the costs low and the landscape changing. Archives
