In Newbury, VT was a blue cooler on the roadside advertising hormone and cage free eggs from Turkey Hill Farms up the road. At $3, the same price as poorer quality store bought eggs , it was only a shame I couldn't carry more than a dozen.

Just caught WiFi and thought I'd toss a few pics up from the last couple days. Thanks for the wellwishes and compliments in the comments section!
The Green mountains of the month remind me so much of West Virginia. There is much to do here including mountain biking, snow sports and kayaking. Fertile valleys producing hay and dairy are connected by old two lane roads with villages spaced no more than a days walk apart. These are old villages dating to the 18th century, with many small well maintained homes still standing today. Many of the roads travel north/south while the forest service access roads are E/W into the hills. Each offered ample free camping and a rolling stream of cool fresh spring water. Vermont never dissapoints. The first sweet aroma of spruce blows through damp fern floored forests of birch, ash and spruce. The many trails and forest roads of the Green Mtn. NF offer days of recreation and relaxation. So far I've explored FS71 and Grout Pond for a couple nights and will continue exploring and fishing the area.
The deluge and lightning had passed by the morning and it was time to get rolling along. Is there a phobia of sitting still too long? I don't have my copy of the DSM handy. Out onto the rain slick roads through tight mossy turns and overhanging hardwood canopies. The region is full of dammed up reservoirs and villages covered by the cost of progress and growth. I made a brief stop in Woodstock to see what the small village had to offer. Championing it's famous past, there were many natural food boutiques, tie-dye draped shops and real-estate offices catering to the vacationing monied elite from NYC. Aside from a few unique characters with feathered hats, tight pants and long beards, it seemed like a touristy place cashing in on the name and historic festival. I don't even recall taking a pic before scooting on toward Phonecia. I'm now at the Hudson River in the warming morning light making my way to the Green Mtns of VT. Arlington here I come (again but this time with passport).

Mike SaundersIn May 2014 I quit my job to ride a Honda Ruckus over 69'000 mi and counting. Wild camping most nights and cooking most of my own meals, I keep the costs low and the landscape changing. Archives
